GARDEN CITY

The concept of this collection is inspired by the Gardens by the Bay architecture located in the heart of Singapore.

Inspired by technology and nature, the collection uncovers the wonders of the juxtaposition of the future and earth

FINAL OUTCOME

BIOMORPHIC

EFFLORESCENCE;

Process - developing and unfolding as if coming into flower. With the theme being biomorphic, I decided to focus on biomorphic forms in flowers, specifically orchids as I am drawn to the shape and structures of the different species of orchids. I want to show how the various forms of orchids can be used as an inspiration to develop unique silhouettes in garments.

In this collection, I was playing around with a lot of volume and big silhouettes using the shapes from various flowers.

LOOK

1

With the combination of military and streetwear, I wanted to create a unisex look with mainly black and white colours used. The elements and detailings are derived from multiple components of Singapore's military wear with details like patch pockets, collars, to the shape and form of the military clothing as inspirations, as well as incorporating parts of streetwear trends like the black and white trend, denim garments and more with the influence of my own style, where I alter the design of the garments to create a sharp and clean silhouette

The primary materials used are denim and stretchy knit material collected as headstock fabric from a closed-down warehouse, making the garments more eco-friendly. This collection targets the younger generation who are adventurous and experimental with new styles.

The phrase " La Vie En Rose" was written in bleach, creating a contrast with the look of the jacket design, making it appear more streetwear as wording prints are commonly used in streetwear fashion.

SEWING PROJECTS:

LEVIS X LASALLE

2021

Front

In collaboration with Levis, I upcycled deadstock products of Levis by incorporating a combination of military and streetwear style as part of the concept. That includes utilising various components of military and streetwear such as the silhouette, construction techniques and design elements.

ETHNICITY

2021

This collection was inspired by traditional Korean wear, focusing on the prints specifically as it was developed with the influence of the beliefs and traditions of the Korean people. The reason for my choice of ethnicity is due to my high interest in their traditions and culture which pushes me to explore further how they carry their traditions even in the present day as well as the hidden meanings of the different elements used in the Korean culture as an Asian with similar traditions with a sensitive approach.

Draped with satin material

The peony print was derived from the actual traditional Korean wear, "Hanbok" where peony prints are commonly utilised as a symbol of wealth and honour as a wish. The peony was personally hand-drawn and created, then printed out on silkscreen to transfer to the fabric with fabric paint section by section.

HISTORICAL MOMUMENTS

IMG_0293.jpg

2020

Located in Little India, Singapore, Tan Teng Niah is a monument and the last surviving Chinese villa owned by a Chinese businessman with richly carved designs that comprise traditional beliefs and culture. The monument was chosen as a desire to introduce the less known historical buildings in Singapore as well as to experiment with bright, bold and vintage colours.

Using fleece as the main material, the joggers were designed and developed with the prints printed on jersey material using digital printing sublimation,  panelled across the joggers. The joggers were also made oversized to cater to the trend.

The motif was first created using the silhouette of the Tan Teng Niah building, then repeated and placed circularly in various sizes and colours that were obtained from the bright colours of the building itself. It was then experimented with more colours and placement methods to create the different types of patterns.

PEDRO X LASALLE

2022

Screenshot 2022-04-19 at 6.01.50 AM.png

The EOS collection was launched by Pedro in with the joint effort of Lasalle where we had to produce ideations for product shoot with a rough concept provided by the brand.

OUR IDEATION: NOSTALGIA
Screenshot 2022-04-19 at 6.03.20 AM.png
Screenshot 2022-04-19 at 6.03.48 AM.png

As a team, we came out with various ideas and decided to go with nostalgia to create a more unique proposal. Since the photoshoot was requested to be outdoors, we explored different locations around Singapore that are nostalgic like Chinatown, Clarke Quay and Joo Chiat.

We experimented with various styles of shooting and a test shot at the locations, playing around with various angles and poses that can draw attention or focus on the product while keeping the concept in mind.

SEPHORA

With " Beauty Power " as the theme of this collaboration, we had to define the meaning of beauty power from our own perspective, coming up with various keywords that correspond to the meaning. Through thorough research about the brand, their audiences, competitors, market trends and SWOT analysis, my teammate and I were able to produce ideas that cater to the brand and the needs of their customers.

Using Illustrator, I have designed the idea for the Sephora app to help aid in the convenience of finding the right products for their customers during the Covid-19 pandemic where testers are not allowed due to the safety of their customers. They can also receive further help through the " online beauty advisor " feature where the AI can communicate with them personally.

FASHION MERCHANDISING:

UNIQLO

Screenshot 2022-04-19 at 6.44.36 AM.png
Screenshot 2022-04-19 at 6.44.56 AM.png

From the in-depth research of Uniqlo done together as a team, we were able to discover how a brand's success comes about, their numerous strategies, how they showcase themselves as a brand, their objectives and the way they deliver that. I have personally learnt that there are many components that add up together to ensure a brand runs smoothly and how merchandising plays a huge role in that as it captures the attention of their targeted audiences.

THE MERCHANDISING CALENDAR

The key to effortless production is having a calendar to plan out the timings required for the production of the items and the processes that are necessary as missing steps may have a contribution to the decrease in sales as well as a messy timeline of the brand in general. As a group, we designed the merchandising calendar that includes the major steps for production.
